導演簡介
西川美和在1974年出生於日本的廣島市,在著名的早稻田大學文學系畢業,本身是一位作家,多次獲得日本的重要文學獎項。其小說也數次由她親自改編及拍成電影。2003年她以《蛇野莓》一片引起評論界廣泛關注。之後的《吊橋上的秘密》、《親愛的醫生》等讓電影愛好者如獲至寶,是日本影壇備受矚目的新銳導演,亦獲取多個電影獎項。作品以細膩描繪人物的心理轉變和複雜微妙的人際關係見稱,亦溫馨、感人。其恩師為知名導演是枝裕和,由他親自發掘。大學期間曾擔任是枝裕和電影《下一站,天國》的助導。

The love story of a man who had no tears to cry when his wife died. Sachio (Masahiro Motoki), who is with another woman (Haru Kuroki) when his wife (Eri Fukatsu) and a friend die en route to a ski resort, has no choice but to act the part of a grieving husband. Meeting Yoichi (Pistol Takeha-ra), the truly desolated truck-driver husband of his wife’s friend, he volunteers to help look after Yoichi’s two young children. He discovers the pleasure of being useful, and his own existence takes on new meaning. This film is a deep dive into all the joy and the pain of living, as viewers share the character’s griefs, confusions, and an ultimate joy.
Director’s bio
Born in 1974 in Hiroshima, Japan, Miwa Nishikawa has received a degree in literature at the University of Waseda. She is a famous novelist, screenwriter and director. Her novels won many important literature awards in Japan. Her first film, Wild Berries (2003), a drama as well as an ironic comedy, launched her into the limelight. Miwa’s later feature films Sway and Dear Doctor continue to make her a respectable filmmaker in Japan and won a few film awards. Her works are remarkable in depicting subtle, complicated personal relationships and characters’ psychological changes. Miwa began her film career as a college student working as a staff member on Hirokazu Koreeda's 1998 film After Life. He was regarded as her mentor in her early filmmaking stage.
